How to tell my neighbor part of his garden is on my property?

My wife and I recently purchased a property in FL. A survey was done before the closing and small yard flags were posted at the four corners of our property. On the final walk-through (before closing) I noticed that a tree that is on my property was incorporated into the "flow" or design of my new neighbors' landscaping. My wife wants to plant flowers around that tree, but I want to address the situation regardless.

We understand that if someone can prove that they've been doing the maintenance or upkeep of a piece of your property for a certain length of time they can ultimately claim it's theirs. (Adverse Possesion)

Part 1: Should we give them the heads up and then plant the flowers or should we just plant them and wait for the reactions?

Part 2: If we give them the heads up and they object to the planting of the flowers, should we provide a copy of the survey and tell them to modify their landscape off our property?

Part 3: If there is more than just the tree in our property, should we have the right to plant in whatever landcaping is on our property?
