how to tell if a middle school boy is trying to flirt with you?

there is this guy in middle school and people tell me that when there that young there idea of flirting is being some what mean so im at a play practise and he throughs a sock at me and so i through it back and it goes back and forth and then he comes over smiling and stuffs the sock in my mouth!!!! >.< and then i go over and TRY to do the same thing (but it doesnt work out to well) and then he steals my hat and then throughs an empty water bottle at me and then the next time i see him he is always smiling at me and then walks up to me and goes "BAAH!!!!!!" and walks away but now every time i see him he is alsways smiling i have never seen him not smiling at me and laughfing......so was he flirting with me or at least trying to????
