...Wrangler? I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler and I believe the starter just went out. The engine doesn't turn anymore and when it did, it would have a low cranking sound. ( like it didn't want to turn on) Now it has like a burning smell when the key is turned. It that the starter? If so is it easy to replace? (a buddy says it is a just a couple of bolts) I have the truck lifted so it is easy to operate under the vehicle.

That could be a few things... You can have the starter checked at your local Auto Zone. If your started is good, it could be an ignition switch or something else. Luckily, jeeps are pretty easy to work on - especially the 4.0L.

Replace the battery first if it's over 4 years old. Make sure the battery cable connectors have been cleaned with a wire brush where they contact the battery posts.
