How to switch from Sprint to ATT?

My instinct got stolen and i got this crappy replacement phone. Now i have been saving up for an i phone. But im still on a contract with sprint and have been hearing that apple is canceling with ATT (Dont know if its true) and my dad is on sprint too. Now what exactly would i have to go through to get on ATT? Is it possible for just me to go to ATT and leave my dad on sprint? and is ATT bill a lot more expensive or cheaper? Cuz if i got an Iphone i need unlimited text and internet. So if someone could estimate how much the phone will cost with the monthly plan. Also is it a lot of trouble cancelling a plan and switching over and would ATT give me a discount for switching?
 
AT&T is more expensive but it depends on how many minutes you need. The cheapest plan is $40 for 450 minutes. Unlimited text is $20 a month and the iphone data plan is $30 a month. You can just come into an att store and give them your Social security number and the account number from your sprint plan and they can switch you over in a few minutes but if your sprint plan is still on contract you will have to pay an early termination fee with sprint. iphone isnt leaving att, at least not yet, and they just announced att as the carrier for the internet for their iPad that just launched so it shows confidence in att if you ask me. Your dad can stay on sprint, he might just have to switch his plan since it will have to move from a family plan to a personal plan. You would have to take that up with sprint after you switch carriers though. When you go to att your sprint line automatically cancels so dont cancel it before you switch or your number will disappear.
