How to stop our chihuahua from whining and yapping when we leave it alone?

We just adopted a chihuahua and we put her bed in the kitchen to sleep at night. There is a gate that keeps the kitchen sectioned off from the rest of the house. When we leave, she starts whining this high pitched whine and starts yapping loudly. She does this for 30 minutes before getting tired of it and quitting. Anyone have ideas on how to get her to stop?
She's 1 year old and I feel bad, but I don't want her to get in the habit of sleeping in the bedrooms.

she is in a new environment and is scared. Get a crate and train her. Around 7 pm feed her for the last time of the day, take her out and play hard with her to wear her down, then put her in her crate with a toy. The crate should be on a table the level of the bed so that she can see you. You can even put your hand near the crate to comfort her. This wont get her used to sleeping in your room but will get her used to her crate. Good luck

for comfort puppies like to listen to the heartbeat of their mothers heart thats why puppies always lay so lose, so try wrapping up a clock with a ticking sound and keep it in the kitchen area so when she does sleep he will feel comforted.

that will help the puppy sleep sound through the night

as for the yipping just ignore the pups welps it's just like a new born baby they whine and whine and if ou give in their whinning will be more persistant so just let the pup be and soon they will realize night time is time to not yip and get attention and to sleep peacefuly

also make sure you have toys in case the pup can't sleep
toys that make noise are good but not treat holder toys because then the pup might have to potty

good luck!

She just doesn't want to be alone. The best method is to ignore her. It may sound cruel but it works. Eventually she will learn that whining gets her nowhere and she will adapt to sleeping alone. I gave my pup a shirt I had worn all day so he could sleep with my scent (it worked wonders). :)

It's also best to put her to bed early. She'll finish whining way before you go to bed.
