My 2 girls were both adopted from the shelter as young dogs. Lorelai, approx. 1 1/2 yrs. adopted as a puppy and Lucy approx. 13 mo. adopted 3 mo. ago. Both dogs are great. Healthy, happy, energetic. They both have slight digestive problems...aka..HORRIBLE GAS but this has been an issue for awhile and the vet has given them both a clean bill of health. Problem...2 weeks ago I purchased all natural green tripe treats for them b/c i read that the tripe is heathly for them and their digestion. They LOVED the tripe. It was almost like a drug to them. Well, ever since that day they have begun eating their feces! If I don't immediatly run outside to pick it up thn it is gone. I've immediatley stopped the tripe but it seems that the habit has already sunk in. I've added pumpkin, yogurt and pineapple to their food b/c I read that it makes the poop less appetizing but it hasn't stopped. Yesterday my Lucy vommitted the poop that she had eatin on my COUCH! My couch smells like feces and will most likely have to be thrown out. I am at a loss for what to do. PLEASE. Someone help. I love my girls but this habit repulses me!
I'd also like to add that both dogs are on a high quality food. Taste of the Wild-High prairie.
Ok, let me clarify. I am a seasoned dog parent. Without giving my life story I'll just say that I do not have human children. My dogs have always been my children. I have done my research completely. As a puppy Lorelai had severe flatulence which after some research I determined was cauced by a grain intolerance. I switched to her current for, Taste of the Wild, which for those of you that don't know it is a very high quality dog food and is right up there with blue buffalo, canidae and wellness.(if you doubt it , look up petfoodannalysis.com. I feed yogurt b/c lorelai bites her paws and i have found that the probiotics in yogurt help with this. They are rarely fed people food. My girls are fed very well. It is not their diet. I truly belive that it is habit they recently developed. I'm only asking for soutions to help stop the problem.
