I am applying to UMBC. The essay question for 2011 is:
- A discussion of your educational and career goals or significant personal
I am going to use this Option:
-Personal Experiences -> I have volunteered at Asbury, a senior center for the elderly since I was in 8th grade. Been going there every week to volunteer and help out with daily needs for the seniors that live there. I am now a senior in high school and am still volunteering there weekly. Sharing happiness and joy while having conversations with them. As well as volunteering in the summertime for a sports camp for young children. They have both changed the way I treat others and have helped me communicate with people much better than before (I am very shy).
I honestly have no clue, how to start my college essay, nor how to put it all together.
Can anyone give me some advice please? I know I should include a lot of detail and vocabulary but I am limited to only 200-350 words which makes me think about what I should include and what I shouldn't...
Senior Volunteer- Visit rooms and have a conversation from morning to afternoon, Help them play bingo and have a cheerful face to have fun, Pass out morning newspapers to all the rooms, Taking them on their wheelchair to places they'd like to go [In the building / Outside the building].
CIT- Every morning in the summer for about 2 weeks, going to the camp and playing with the little elementary school kids with their sports camp, helping with making T-shirts for them, communication while having fun, playing as team captain for each team, helping keep order so no one is lost anywhere.
These volunteer services have helped me mature in communication and have made me into a more confident person. I used to be very shy while in my elementary school/middle school years and now I'm social and I'm in love with sharing joy to everyone.
[No clue how to start my college essay] Please help with advice!!!
Maybe something like... So I'm sitting in my father's car, driving towards my first time to Asbury...? Idk...
