How To Shift a Car if its an Automatic?

I know most newer cars has where you can be automatic or semi-manual shift.

This may sound crazy, but I wanted to kno if you can go from D1 to D2 to D3 then last to D (drive or overdrive)???

I have been wondering what D3 D2 D1 is for, so can someone please help!!!

Drive 1, Drive 2 and Drive 3 are the equivalent of gears in an automatic car..lets say you are cruising at D3 and you wish to slow down, all you have to do is go down to D2 while applying a little bit of brakes and voila! but they are really not that useful most new cars dont even have D1,2 and 3. they simply have D
As for overdrive your car should have a button on the side of the lever marked "OD"
