how to set up website with perl CGI?

i want to set up a domain so i can test/develop a website using perl CGI. ive signed up with one of those FREE hosting sites and the account is all set up.

how do i alter the content of the webpage? i dont see any options on the site.

am i suppose to connect to the ip address in perl or what?

please help!!!

I'm sorry, but I laughed out loud when I read this.

5 or 10 years ago, "free" hosting might have included unresticted access to a server. These days, it means that you can play with a template. You have no control over the server-side code. For that, you have to pay.

By way of example, Time Warner cable used to offer free web-space for its customers. So, I signed up and created my own home-page. I was allowed to FTP anything I wanted to my site. A year later, I got an e-mail saying that all accounts were being revoked, and that they were moving everyone to template-based sites with drag-n-drop content.

You can still play around with the HTML and maybe even some JavaScript, but that's about it.
