i have a brand new Netgear WNR3500L router. it has a USB port on the back, and i can hook up my Seagate FreeAgent drive no problem. the drive shows up in the web UI for the router, and i can access the files via a web interface. however, i have been unable to map the drive so that i can access the files directly from my computer. i have the following options for drive access:
- network connection (i.e. "\drivename")
- HTTP
- HTTP via internet
- FTP
- FTP via internet

the only one i can "map" is FTP via internet, and while it successfully goes through the steps i can't actually see any of my files from My Network Places. the others ask me for my username/password, which for some reason the wizard won't accept when i enter them. i have no username or password setup for the drive itself, web UI shows no username/password necessary to access the drive (in fact the web access asks me for the username/password for the router since it goes through the router, and nothing more after that)...

after doing some research online, it seems that i may need to do one of two things: either reformat the drive from NTFS to FAT32 (which my understanding is i can't due to the size - 1 Tb - of the drive), or "hack" my router to install a third-party firmware (which i'm unwilling to do since the reason i have it is for the FCC/SamKnows broadband speed testing, and therefore it technically doesn't belong to me).

all i want to do is be able to listen to the music on the drive from wherever my laptop is, without having to disconnect, unplug, move, replug, and reconnect the drive whenever i move from one room to another. i have nearly 150 Gb of music on the drive already - only about half-done ripping at the moment - and not enough room on either of my laptops to simply copy the files to the internal hard disks. any thoughts/help???
