How to saltwater fish around Boston?

I am heading to the Boston area the first week of August, and am going to try out some surf fishing. I do quite a bit of freshwater fishing here in Indiana, but surf fishing is an all new animal to me. I will be taking a baitcaster and a spinning combo. How should I rig my equipment? What can I catch in that area? Besides shrimp and spoons, what kind of bait/lures should I get? Also, any comments on technique would be awesone.

Thanks!

Im in the same boat as you there. Im a bass guy from ky but have done some saltwater fishing. When i we mainly used squid but there were some pretty cool rigs that we pulled many fish out on. It was a little like a double rig for walleys or crappie in freshawater, just an up-sized version. There were 2 hooks on a leader about a foot apart with a heavy egg style weight at the bottom, probably a half ounce. We were putting large pink and white grubs (artificial) on them and jigging up and down. It wasnt unusual to pull up 2 fish at a time, i cant tell you what they were but it was fun nonetheless. These rigs were sold at the local stores and baitshops along the beach.
