How to Remove the tree branch obstruction In God of war 3, 1st chapter!?

I'm having a hard time to remove the tree at the beginning of god of war 3! after taking out all the enemies I'm Pressing R1 and then o but nothing is happening! I've been trying for hours!
anyone? your help will be appreciated! thanks
 
Did you get past this, i have the same issue. I have wasted hours and not able to get past this.
 
damn man, I bought this game with high expectations. The first chapter itself is a big turn off, there's that bloody tree that I am not able to lift. Is it the game or the controller that has the problem. I did try restarting from the last checkpoint but this did not help. I have even restarted the game going through the bullshit cutscenes for a second time, but still its no help.

Should i delete the save file of the game and try the game totally anew? What type of bullshit hero is this guy? cant even lift up a tree. fml

please help :(
