I'm trying to test the thermostat on my 1953 Buick Roadmaster (322 Nailhead Engine). I am trying to solve an overheating problem, and have already eliminated the radiator and water pump as possible culprits.
I have removed the water outlet that returns heated coolant to the radiator, but their are no obvious places to apply either a wrench to unscrew it, or apply leverage to lift it out without damaging the unit.
Is it possible to remove the thermostat itself? Or is it considered a "disposable" element that should simply be replaced if suspect? It was supposedly replaced but I am suspect of the original shop working on this problem having competence in this particular area.
