How to remove lead based paint from an old home?

Our home is old and was built in the late 60's. Im so sure that the paint originally used has lead. We have repainted our house over the years but I am afraid that the original lead paint might leach into the newer paint and still be dangerous. How do you remove the lead paint? Do we sand the walls all the way down?
 
It will not leach into the new coats of paint. Unless the paint starts to chip away lts best to let sleeping dogs lie. Never sand paint that you think has led in it, doing so will contaminate your house.
