How to remove hook from fish?

My mom and I are going fishing tomorrow and we don't know the proper technique for removing a fish hook from the mouth of a fish with teeth or a shark. We'd like to keep the fish to cook and eat, so no catch and release techniques, please.
Also, how would i kill it humanely?
 
If you are removing a hook from a bony fish with teeth, try to slide your hand down, gripping it so your palm is on its top side, over its head toward its tail until you have a good grip near its midsection. This way you will lay down its dorsal fin so the spines wont poke you. You may just want to cut the line on a shark and tie a new rig so you don't get bit.
