Hey Pati40,

I see this is your first post to hello and welcome! If you could give us some details about your usage of codeine it would help us be able to give you advice. Being that there were no details in your post, that is probably why you have not received any replies besides mine.

I would like to help you out though so post some details if you can.

Thanks.

HI Secrets,

Thanks for the update and reason why i never got any feedback. My story is: three years ago i quit codeine after taking about 1200 millligrams for clos to 4 years. I quit cold turkey and i must say its the advise i got on this board that really helped me know what to do and i thank all posts that helped, it was great to know what to expect.

Anyways three years later had to go to the dentist and it was a vet painful experirnce, needless to say i asked the pharmacist for a strong medication to dull the pain and sure enough he gave me nuropen PLUS, contains 12mg per tablet. This has escalated to me taking 1600mg plus per day for about a year, and i have again taken the decision to quit CT again. Wanted to know if anything had changed. However, this time around i talked to my GP who recommended Diazepam, which i haven't used as yet. I am on day 2 and to be honest its not as bad as the last time. Is this because i haven't taken the codeine for as long, or the WD's will come starting day 3. Please advise where possible. Thanks

Patrick

I'm not real sure how to quit codiene but i can tell you how not to. husband was addicted to codiene for 8 yrs upto an unbelievable 200mgs of codiene a day. after years of trying everything he turned to methadone he was off codiene but within a year of beginning methadone he was dead. he was on 70mgs of methadone a day it built up in his liver over the year and he died. he had lost more than 60lbs that year and the clinic he went to everyday did nothing just kept feeding it to him. i do wish u all the luck in the world with your problem but stay away from methadone. remeraber u can beat it u r stronger than ure addiction.;)

Thanks Lostnilf for your very touching response. The first time i quit it i was upto 1200mg a day and just couldn't taper off, so quit cold turkey. Now im upto 1600 and would like to quit CT again. I am on day 3 and the WD symptoms are bearable, immodium has helped a lot but i am generally weak and lethargic and was asking the forum how long thi general weakness lasts. I have no intention of using drugs to go off this and will not use the diazepam. Thanks again for your thoughtful reply and wish you all the best.

Dear All,
Once again thanks for all the advise issued. I am now on day 4 and the physical wd's are still not bad, what i am experiencing is cravings for the codeine. i have decided to fight these cravings physically an dim walking, running, shooting hoops and sprints up the hill to mu house. i so want to sweat out all the nasty stuff i've been ingesting for the past year...my mantra is (please forgive me) F$#@^& Codeine you're not going to beat me, thanks to lostnilf's advise. as they say the fight continues and i'm giving myself this week and then i'm back to work. Thanlks again for listening to me. all the best people.
