How to put ear plugs in?

The reason I'm asking this is because I have hard plastic... probally a stupid idea to get that kind but everytime I try and put it in it wont work I've tried putting lube on it but still no they are both the same size should I push really hard to get it in or something dont tell me to get new ones I have no money or job so it's kinda hard anyways thanks for any help
