How to prevent all my music to show up as ringtones?

Hi,

In my music player I can set which folders it looks in for music. But since I added music to my phone all the songs shows up as ringtones which makes it very hard to pick one since I have a large SD card with a lot of music on it. Any way to only see ringtones when I want to set notification for programs?

It's all about using the correct folders. They are:

alarms
music
notifications
ringtones

Or if you prefer...

media\audio\alarms
media\audio\music
media\audio\notifications\
media\audio\ringtones\

Not all phones use these folders though. But I recommend trying putting all of your MP3s in a "music" folder on your SD card.

Thanks. I've done this, but still all my music files show up when I want to set an alert sound for an application. I would only want notifications and ringtones to show up as alternatives. One thing I did come up with is to start ringtone and alert files with a _ (underscore). Then they do at least show up on the top of the list so I do not have to scroll through hundereds of file names to find the right sound file.

Good idea.

Curiously, it's usually the opposite problem most people have. Frequent requests on here are "How do I use an MP3 or my music as a ringtone?" and "How to I stop ringtones appearing amongst my music?"

put the music you don't want to show in another folder, not in the system specified folder, create one yourself, then refresh the ringtone list.
