How to prepare ground for a garden?

Dog has done his business at the east side of house. We now want to use this area to plant a garden. What can we do to grow are veggies to perfection?
 
Wow! Mix it into the dirt really well. Cow or ( old ) chicken poop is
really good. Dog poop will do nothing for your veges.

I also had the same problem with my dog going in our yard. I've been given the suggestion to not worry because root crops are the ones that soak up the icky stuff. Whether you want to follow that is up to you.

I grow in containers because I just don't trust our ground yet lol
