how to politely ask to switch class periods?

all of my friends have 6 period lunch and i have 5 so i wanted to change. plus if i change i'll be in math with my friend. the guidance department said they we were not allowed to change our schedual unless it was important. so i was wondering how i can politely ask to change. i have never asked to change classes before and many people do every year. HELP
