How to play video files on sony bravia KDL40v5100?

I know this is an INCREDIBLY stupid question. but I've run out of ideas. I'm trying to figure out what buttons on the remote to push & what menu options I want to get a Sony Bravia KDL40v5100 LCD TV to play .mpg files from a thumb drive in the USB port on the TV. The problem is: I can not find any option in any of the TV menus for playing video. I can find an option for pictures & doing a slideshow w/ them, but not videos.

I don't need to know the acceptable & unacceptable file formats because I know them already. And I'm pretty sure the problem is not the file itself. It plays fine on another person's Bravia (KDL32ex500) Unfortunately, their menu options are different so I can't do it the same way as they do. The manual is no help at all, and neither is the Sony support site. Beyond a brief mention somewhere on the site that the TV should play video files, there's no instructions for how to get them to play.

Am I insane & trying to the impossible? Does this model not support video files from the USB port? Or am I just blind & missing the menu option that I need? Any answers to this are greatly appreciated, even if it's just to tell me that it can't play video files.

Thanks!
