How to palm a slippery basketball?

I can palm a composite leather basketball or a rubber one, but I simply can't palm a a good quality leather ball - like the ones my school uses, because they're just too slippery. What can I do to fix this? Will have stronger hands do the trick, or will it not make a difference since the balls to slippery?
 
Not really stronger hands, but do you have like those powders that players use to dry their hands and make them more gripable?
Sometimes also, I kind of "cheat" when I palm the ball and palm it using like the ridges of the ball which it makes it easier to palm it
