How to paint a bike.?

I just bought a bike, sweet little road bike. The bike is a sexy orange and I would like to paint it. I would like to keep it sexy orange I just would like to fix the digs and scraps. The bike has a few of these. Can I just paint over the whole bike with a color close the the sexy orange it already has? What kind of paint should I use?
