How do I go about negotiating a deal close to or at the invoice price? Do I have to be a member of something? Is it only participating dealerships that offer cars at/near the invoice price? What do I say when I go there?
(I am looking at buying a new Prius when they come out later this summer.)
As much info as possible is appreciated =)

You have to have what they want, and what they want is MONEY.

Right now Priuses are probably going for what the dealer says, and that will probably be the big number on the little add-on sticker next to the MSRP sticker. Don't want to pay it? Please step aside, Maam, the man behind you is waving hundred-dollar bills and looks like he's in a hurry.

Priuses also have a larger carbon footprint than many SUVs, and you'll be paying such a premium to impress fashionista-environmentalists that you may never recoup the savings in gas mileage over the life of the car.

That being said, if you want to try to drive a hard bargain go in with actual cash in your hand, not a check, and you're not financing, at least not through the dealership. If you have a trade-in make sure it's a late model car that goes for as much as or more than the Prius, and that it's in immaculate condition.
