If i don't have a rod rest available i normally just find a large branch with a forked end and rest the rod in the fork. This probably isn't what you want but i thought i'd just let you know in case it helps

i want to make a little rod holder so when i fish for catfish, i can see the tip of the rod moving instead of leaving it on the ground and then i wont be able to kno that theres a fish on my bait. please help and thanks
