How to loosen auto tensioner in 91 ford tempo?

I managed to get the serpentine belt off earlier so i could change the water pump, but now i cant get the auto tensioner to loosen so i can put the belt back on...there is supposed to be a square hole that you insert a 1/2 inch breaker bar into, but that hole is all gashed up and i cant get anything in there...how can i loose the serpentine belt auto tensioner so i can put the belt back on?
i need this car to run, its down to one car running in a 3 person home...what can i do to get the pull that tensioner so i can get the serpentine belt back on?
 
This little idler pulley/tensioner is not expensive and if that square hole is boogered up, (how'd you manage that?) then a pry bar against it will either crack or break the pulley or egg shape (ruin) it... Don't bother looking for it at autozone. Try NAPA, or a salvage yard. If the bracket is only available at salvage, it would be wise to go back to NAPA and get the new idler pulley wheel or have the bearing pressed out of the old one and a new bearing pressed in.....
