How to keep a puppy from whining in its cage?

My husband and I just bought a puppy, she is 9 weeks old now. We can never leave because she will cry and cry and wont stop. We live in an Apartment so it would cause a problem for everyone around us. How do we get her to stop so we can leave for errands, or for anything else?
 
Our puppy got used to her kennel and now prefers it at times. Yours will too. In the meantime, try covering the kennel with a light sheet or blanket.. much like you would a birdcage at night.

First of all, don't be suckered into the cries for attention. The faster she gets used to the idea, the more relaxed she will be.
Second, don't make a big deal when you leave or when you come home. She will realize that this is just normal routine.
Third, my pup liked it it we left the radio on a talking station, just so she felt like someone was there. Some I hear like music.

well it takes time and if you just got her she will whine and cry for the first few days to get over her momma dog and the litter. and you have to also introduce the crate little at a time with treats. if your dog whines or barks in the cage don't pay any attention to her because if you let her out or anything of that sort she will continue to bark or whine and she will know that is what it takes to get let out.

try putting the crate next to your bed for a few days so she knows she is not alone.
 
If you just got her she is going to whine because she misses mom and her siblings give her time to get use to being away from them also she might not like the crate so take her out of it when my dogs was puppies I would put them in bed with us at night and they would sleep all night long plus if we had to run to the store we would take them with us. yes they are spoiled but happy lol
 
My husband and I had the same problem with our Husky (we also live in an apartment). We actually got several complaints, but the whining was really out of our control. The best I can say is just explain that you're in the process of training your puppy and that it's going to take some time so to please be patient. Also, do not give in to the whining because they do it a lot for attention too. I found that when I got better at ignoring it (granted I knew they didn't need to potty), he stopped whining and would go back to sleep. Hope it helps!
 
One thing that I found that helps a lot is giving the dog a toy or piece of worn clothing and put it in the crate. If it is a shirt or clothing article, make sure that you wear it for a little bit before you put it in the crate so that it will have "your scent" on it. This helps to reduce anxiety for the dog and provides them with a sense of comfort. This helped my puppies and they still keep one of my t-shirts in their crate today!
 
You could give her something to do in it, such as a favorite toy or chewie.

This is typical of a 9 week pup though, usually this is something that you have to ignore, until they get used to the crate & your schedule.
