how to increase my c drive capacity?

my hp nc 6120 / HD capacity 40 gb but it has has only 400 mb in free space, this's too low . my c sdive capcity is 9.76 gb . once i reached up to 2.5 gb after i tried TEMP,PREFETCH and un istalled all none needed programs exersises, i furthere more unistalled the word components 590 mb and re installed it again , with word ,xl and tools only , unfortunatelly discovered that free space in c is just only. 400 mb . nothing newly insstalled. . appreciate any positive quick help...
