the title is "how to heal SCARE tissue":eek:
how appropriate!!

Deb

You can't heal scar tissue. It forms after the surgery. Only way to get rid of it is to go back in and clean it out. Problem is that it comes back. They think scar tissue is pressing on my nerve in my leg and causing my pain. Hurts more then it did before surgery.

Can you go and have it clean once in a while? Does it hurt alot during the cleaning procedure?

Does scar tissue has anything to do with the surgery performer's skill?

I too am in so much more pain today, than prior to the surgery. I was told that it is from the scar tissue and that if they try to clean it out, that it would come back worse. I was also told that it was not due to my surgeon's performance and that it is common. (However, it was another Dr. that told me that and I don't know if he was just sticking up for another Dr.) But I tend to believe him, since he gave me a realistic sounding answer about how I got it.

As the others have said, there is no way to really treat it. There are things you can possibly do to try to prevent it, such as PT and stretching, but that doesnt guarantee one wouldnt have a problem from it. I did whatever I could after my surgery and I still have alot of scar tissue. I know it has already caused me some problems, and not sure if possibly some of my newer problems might be caused by it. And of course if one has surgery to remove it, it will probably end up the same as before. And each time one gets any kind of surgery, increases the risk for other problems as well. So there really isnt much one can do regarding this.

Deb - LOL, I didnt even notice

It has nothing to do with your surgeon, unfortunately it is a risk associated with surgery. Previously, it is my understanding that they could use some spray or put some type of sleeve over the scar tissue but FDA pulled it saying it was ineffective in the treatment of scar tissue.

What the others are saying is true. :( Lazer removal has been used on other parts of the body and the regrowth is slow, however, you cannot do it for back surgeries and the like due to the nerves surrounding the scar tissue. If the nerves are severed, you are in big trouble. You can get injections in the area to alleviate some of the discomfort. I just had that done when I had an SI injection. The scar tissue was one of my biggest pain generaters and I didn't know it was scar tissue. The shot was effective for that area for me so you might want to bring it up to your doctor.

Deb, I missed it too!! It is appropriate! :)

When I went with my bf for another opinion, we were told that it takes 7 years for scar tissue to soften up. Not very promising.

llincoln-Thanks, I am going to ask about the injection. I love this board, I cant get better info. anywhere else!

Lynne720-Do you think that he Dr. that said 7 years to soften the S. tissue, did he lead you to believe after that time period the tissue may stop causing problems?

Have a good night all.
