How to handle someone talking bad about you and giving you attitude?

There is this girl at my school. She isn't in any of my classes but I see her a lot especially in the halls. In seventh grade, she asked me, does ____ think I'm pretty? (a boy who she liked). I knew that he didn't but she was already sad as is so I told her that yes, he thinks she's pretty. A year later (now, eighth grade) she found out that I lied. I admitted my lie and told her that yes I did lie and it was only to save our friendship because she would've hated me if I said no - that's how she is. And she said, it's okay. And then a few days later she started talking bad about me to her friends and telling people not to be my friend and everything and the first thing I thought was: WHAT A HYPOCRITE! She just said it was okay, now she's telling everyone not to be my friend anymore? And then yeah she toned down for a bit and people still kept talking to me and everything. Then tonight, again, I just updated my Facebook status saying "Small people talk about other people" and she updated her status a few minutes later "OH, STOP TALKING ABOUT YOURSELF, YOU STUPID LIAR! BWAHAHAHAHA!" and of course as you can tell that is SO directed to me. I deleted her off Facebook and I can tell that tomorrow she will start another round of rumors and bad stuff about me. What I've been doing is ignoring her though. Is this the right thing to do - ignore her? And if tomorrow I am talked bad about again, to hold my head up high and just forget about her and show that I am the better person in this situation? What should I do?
