How to Grow flowers I wanna grow a garden?

I know you need plants to grow in your climate but I don't know which flowers are right. I live in California so the temp. Is usually about 70 80 90 degrees 60 if it's winter and the dirt is fertile and it's rare that it is a cloudy day. So I want my garden to be colorful so please have a few flower names. KAY
