I was just wondering how would you go about getting started in CGI? It really interests me but it's kinda hard to take it up as a hobby since I can't find any software where I can practice creating my own CGI studies/work. Also, I'd really like to learn more about it like the process of creating CGI in movies and the software the professionals use etc. I'd also like to know how I could get into the CGI business. My dream job would be to work as a Special FX/Graphics designer on movies.
So the things I really want to know the answers to:
*What kind of qualifications do they look for?
*What sort of experience would I need?
*Are there any good books on the process/about CGI?
*Is there a programme a bit like photoshop that can help me create my own mini CGI clips?
*Would I need a portfolio to get further in the industry if I wanted to study it at University?
