My girlfriend applied to SDSU and she got her acceptance letter, however, the quote for financial aid she got from the FAFSA wasn't enough for her to be able to go to college here. Her mother is originally from the Philippines and she studied there, majoring in nursing. She then came here and brought her kids (including her daughter, whom I'm talking about) here to the states. She is paid very well (seeing how she's a nurse) and because of that, my girlfriend is receiving less money from the FAFSA. This is unfair as she is a single mother (her father is in the Philippines as an officer) and has to pay for both the house payment (which she couldn't get a loan modification for) and two cars, along with groceries and gas all by herself. But because the FAFSA takes into account yearly income, assets, etc., she cannot get enough financial aid to remain here in the US.
Because of all of this, her mother is opting to have her go to the Philippines for college, which, in turn, is not as good as the education here in the US but is a lot cheaper.
Finally, getting down to my question, what options does she have at this point? She doesn't think she can survive from the "culture shock" (from the US to the PH) and it's a third-world country, which can have a lot of determining factors on her education. She wants to stay here, but she can't due to monetary issues. HELP PLEASE!
