How to get melted plastic off a spiral electric burner (feel free to laugh)?

Maybe not something you hear everyday...

I left a plastic cutting board on the stove top with the oven on, and obviously the heat from the oven heated the burner up enough to melt the plastic (the burner is the old style electric spiral type). I've managed to get most of the plastic off using a stainless steel scrubber.

My problem is there is still a little bit of plastic on the inner most spiral part of the burner. Its not much but its still there. How should I clean it? Is it safe to let it burn off? Or should I use a knife to pick it all out? Or something else?

Please help. And yes, insults are welcome as I obviously made a bonehead move.
