Hi. My story is similar to yours.

I am from Nicaragua but have grown up mostly in the U.S. Like you, I changed the most from my immediate family. Though I never forgot how to speak Spanish, my Spanish did not resemble that unique tone that is spoken in Nicaragua anymore. Also, my lifestyle resembled more of the American culture than the Nicaraguan culture. However, five years ago I started making trips to Nicaragua on an annual basis. I reunited with my cousins, aunts, and uncles who are still there and I can tell you that that experience in itself has left a lasting impression on my life. I have come to learn a lot more of Nicaragua's history, its folklore, culture, music, foods, language, and people than ever before. It is so amazing to be there because although I have not lived there in such a long time, it feels like my home.

I recommend that if you do get a chance, travel to the Philippines as much as you can and always remember that the Philippine culture is what you inherited from your ancestors and you should appreciate it.
