How to get from Rochester to University at Buffalo in a cheap and timely manner?

My boyfriend goes to SUNY Buffalo and I go to RIT (rochester inst. technology)... I was wondering if there was any cheaper and faster way than taking a cab or amtrak or both in order to visit him...

What do you suggest?
