How to get back into art?

For most of my life I lived and breathed art. I loved to draw and play guitar for hours on end. I was never amazing but I was ok. The three things I needed in life were my art supplies, my guitar, and video games. Food could wait. But slowly I gave it up after being told how much I fail at it over and over. I haven't really done anything much art related in the last year and I miss it so much. I want to get back into it but I can barely make myself doodle or pick up my guitar. I've always wanted to be an art major but if I can't get back into it I'll have to change my major. What should I do?
Well I kind of have to get back into it soon. I think I have to submit a portfolio in the spring to get into the digital media program. Its a concept art and animation program. If I don't get in I could do animation through a regular art major though.

I went through what you described for years, although the circumstances that led up to it were different. I loathed putting pencil to paper, which was quite opposite of the way I had been previously. I used to lock myself in my room and just draw and draw.

I would try to draw while I had my 'artist's block', but nothing came out satisfactorily. What changed my outlook and will was actually going to school for Graphic Design. There were some classes that focused specifically on traditional art such as Drawing and Ilustration and Life Drawing.

I have been drawing and painting almost steadily since I went to school. (I graduated from Graphic Design over a year ago, and just graduated from 3D Animation.)

Im somewhat of an artist myself, I love drawing and sketching, even some digital work. Ive had the same problem as well. Mid June I got out of drawing, but I brainstormed yesterday and started something that looks good so far. I doubt that you fail at anything, you seem like a talented and smart person. I think you cant force yourself to draw or play guitar, but maybe when you're inspired you'll get something really good. :)
