I want to become a writer and I've already started on a book. But I figure before I finish that I should try to get some short stories published to see if this is what I want to do and to see if I have the ability. I was wondering how you go about that. What do I do and who do I talk to? Is it easy? I know it's probably easier than getting a book published, but how easy or hard is it for a short story? What is a good length for a short story? I'm not trying to just write a story that's so many words or pages, but I'm just curious as to what the average length is. Thanks for all your answers.
