a lien was placed on my wife home from a credit card co. that her ex husband had. but we found out that he filed and was granted a bankruptancy but the lien is still in place and has been there for over nine years. how do we get this removed and does this lien still have to be paid; or is there like a statue of limitions on how long a lien can stay on the court house books.

if your wife was obligated on the debt (meaning a owner of the card, not simply an authorized user of the card) she is responsible for the debt and it would need to be paid, or settled. If she was not obligated on the card you should contact the company directly and provide whatever documentation they need to remove the lien. The only way the lien can be removed is by the lien holder. If you are looking to refi the home you may be able to get the lien holder to subordinate if they are not willing to remove the item of if you cannot prove your wife was not obligated - however if you have any equity or are receiving any cash out the cc company will likely not subordinate.
