bought a car a few years ago and it wasnt running (69 cuda) now i have it up and running ready to hit the road but when my father bought the car he never had the title put into his name and he had only had a temporary tag for it... well before he got the title into his name he lost it.... its no where to be found and he bought the car about 8 hours away 4 years ago so it would be really hard to get in contact with the previous owner to have him file for a lost title... the only thing i have is the temp. license plate that is was past expired. What options do i have? i live in cincinnati ohio

The hard part is going to be finding the previous owner. As far as the state of Ohio is concerned, that person is the owner of the vehicle. You'll have to make an effort to contact that person. Most states won't issue a new title on the word of anyone. It would be too easy to steal a car with the state's blessing that way.

You can try to obtain a duplicate title (at your expense) and have them notarize the title to you. If you can't find the previous owner, then contact the DMV for a possible bonded title. See the link below for an explaination. It may or may not apply in Ohio.
