2001 Dodge Neon is making a squeeling noise, it is not the belt, I think that it is the idle wheel that is next to it. Does any one know how much this would cost to replace and would I need to replace the whole outer casing.

its best to replace the whole idler puller rather than to just replace part of it,when you go to the parts store just tell them you need the idler assembly, they cost about 20 bucks through most parts stores, good luck.

Hi
Its been my experience that the idle wheel does not make a
squealing noise It will make a grinding or a rattling noise ..you
can check the idle wheel by removing the belt and see if the pulley
wobbles or is hard to turn

maybe try a belt dressing that eliminates the belt from slipping resulting in a squealing noise you can try a product from stp called belt ease or a similar
product maybe try that. It is cheaper than replacing a idle wheel
