1. after changing oil, I was able to start the car, but the engine would not idle.
2. what is the possibility that the valve is damaged?
3. what is the possibility that the motor is further damaged and needs to be replaced?
4. can I get away with just replacing the chain?
my car engine stopped and would not start. I had not changed oil for a long time. Mechanic says timing chain jumped and needs to be replaced.

ok, first of all, you should know that the timing belt or chain in a honda is a critical part. if it is malfunctioning, DO NOT START OR ATTEMPT TO START THE ENGINE, You're asking, no.... begging: for valve damage if you do. Have it towed, have the chain replaced, period. End of story. You're gonna hear the same from others. -john in Iowa
