How to fix a Samsung DVD player remote!?

Hey, i've recently bought a SH893M DVD player, it's a recordable DVD. It's working fine and everything is great, but the hand remote (which the home cinema one) isn't working to good.
As i've been trying to make up some space in my home, i've been recorded old VHS movies and putting them onto discs, but recently, the remote won't let me switch "AVs". The rest of the remote is working brillinatly but there is one small section of the remote which isn't. I don't know if any of you have a cinema remote, it's a "home cinema" one and it's the longest one Samsung has ever provided. It has a small "circle" with "Ok" in the middle with arrows pointing around. It also has "Menu" "Return" "Info" and "Exit" placed around the "circle". Above it, is the "Prog" and "VOL" buttons, that little section above appears not to be working. The rest of the remote works fine. I asked a friend who works at a repair store and he suggested simply getting new batteries. I have done and it's still not working. My VHS is accessable on AV2, but my DVD player automatically fixes itself on AV1 (where my sky is), i can't change it and i'm wondering if there is a solution to this, or whether it's a simple error that can be repaired quickly.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
