HOW TO FIGURE HIM OUT?

In my new school,there's this guy that was into me but I wasn't into him.I ended up falling for him soon enough though and after we made out at a pals party,I really liked him.H told me himself that he liked me,some of his friends told me.Towards the end of the term we were together a lot.Then over the holidays he went quiet.So I sent him a message on facebook.We made small talk for a bit and then he said 'Do you want a relationship out of all this?If you do,this fling cant continue' This of course hurt and I decided not to go through with anything else.I didn't talk to him for the rest of the holidays.When we got back to school,a few days later he inboxess me saying hi,I was kinda rude at first.Then he started saying how much he misses me nd all.Over the next few weeks he told me how he has this conceited attitude because he's seen a lot,been hurt badly once nd all.Apparently hehasn'tt told many people.I went out with a group of friends minus him one saturday night.I spend about 2 hours talking to a good friend of his alone.I asked him about this guy and he was like 'Be careful coz he goes through chicks really fast' he also told me he likes me but hewasn'tt going to do anything about it coz he knew I liked him.When I told him about how the guy kinda opened up a bit he was like 'wow that's really rare for him,I think you guys should go ahead but be careful coz he might hurt you' So in schoolrumourss that this guy and I made out while we were alone went around and I guess the guy I was into found out coz hewasn'tt really talking to me for a week.His friend,the guy I was with told me that the guy asked him if there was anything going on between me and him.In a jealous way.The guy told him no and after that he seemed ok.I noticed it too.Herelaxedd a bit.But now the silence has started again.Apparently the rumours have become worse.What should I do??Whats going through the guys head?Is this why he's kind of distant?
