Several years ago in my early 20's I was working for a company. I was there for a little over a year and made a mistake on an account. The mistake ended up costing a huge loss for the company and I was let go. The error I made was not intentional and could have been prevented had I carefully did my due diligence. Forward ten years later to present time. A friend of mine introduced me to a recruiter to help me out with my current job search whose only client is the company I use to work for. I am afraid to ask for his help because of what he might find out about my past with the company and further more possibly disclose that to my friend. However he happens to be a very good contact and I do not want to loose that relationship with him especially in this tough job market. What is the best way to explain my past if someone asks about it? If he works in HR for that company would he be able to find out my past record?
I usually do not put that job down on my resume. First, because of what happened. Second, because the experience is irrelevant to the types of jobs I am currently looking for.
When I originally spoke to him, I did mention that I had worked for the company several years ago and he asked me to send him my most recent resume with that job included.
