How to engage 4 wheel drive on Toyota 4Runner?

1995 4Runner Limited. It has a lever next the the automatic transmission lever that has 2H, 4H, 4L. It also has a green button on the transmission box.

The truck did not come with an owners manual. What is the process of putting the car in 4WD, and back in 2WD. What else do I need to know about switching back and forth?

1995 4Runner specific please.
 
okay so when it says "4L" it means its in 4wd in a torque-y low gear and this is used when off roading slowly...NOT to be used at high speeds! "4H' is the 4wd that you can use at high speeds! for example, snow or dirt/gravel roads. so yeah put the lever into those depending on how you need it. keep it in "2H" when your just driving on the road.
