how to drive automatic-transmission car effectively and efficiently?

I just bought my first automatic-transmission car (Honda Freed), previously using manual gear. Any advice on how to drive it effectively (engine wise) and efficiently (fuel)? When should I use 1,2, or D or D3 (OD off) ? I drive everyday 30 km in stop-n-go condition (traffic jam). Should I use 1 and 2 only? Should I change to N during stop and just D and brake? Is it safe to use D3 in 140kmph (6k-7k rpm)? Danke!
