I will try to present this question as non-confusing as possible. I don't know that much about cars so here it goes:
First off, two people I know who aren't so internet savvy are the ones helping fix my car so I am posting for them. They are pretty good at fixing cars, but they just can't seem to figure out this one thing, which I will describe my best.
My 1988 Jeep Cherokee with a tilt steering column took a dump when the steering column came loose and the ignition wont even do anything. The steering wheel is wobbly and you can move it in any direction. The whole thing turns, even parts that shouldn't.
We (they) took the steering wheel off and undid the nut on the big bolt (not sure what to call it). Now it looks like a long portion of the bolt sticking out of a cylinder shaped portion. The problem is they can't figure out how to get this component off (there appears to be no bolts, screws, or anything that would be a clue as to how to get it off).. I don't know what to call it, but its a big cylinder shape. Beneath that are the bolts the go together on the steering column.
You can see where the bolts came undone on the steering column, but we cant get to them without removing this piece I mentioned. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or have an idea how to fix it? Especially if you could find me some type of .pdf instruction on how to remove it that would be great.
Thanks for the help and thanks for dealing with my poor terminology!
