Before I upgraded the Facebook for BlackBerry app I didn't get any notifications. Now I do get them but despite unchecking all boxes on both the app and the Facebook website they won't stop! Also, I do not get the annoying e-mails which is weird because when I did have the notfications on when I first got the app I got an e-mail for every notification.
