Railroad ties always make an inexpensive & efficient garden bed. Lay them out in a big square- you can make it one, two or even three rows high. The higher you stack them, the more additives you'll need to raise it up to your comfort level. Add topsoil and fertilizers (miracle grow or osmocote), a few bags of peat moss & mushroom compost. It is easy to mark off your rows & squares with string- just stick small nails or tacks along the top of the railroad ties & measure your squares/rows. If you plant tomatoes, make sure they are staked or caged. The same with eggplant, or peppers. Daily sun & water are crucial. Good luck & have fun.
